The cellar town of Baltanás as reference in Europe

On February 27, researchers from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) met with the mayor of Baltanás, María José de la Fuente, to present the European ARGUS project.

The Bodegas del Barrio de Baltanás is one of the pilots of the ARGUS project, financed by the European Union. The Barrio de Bodegas de Baltanás is made up of 375 excavated cellars on five levels, a unique example of cultural heritage associated with wine production systems.

ARGUS will apply monitoring technologies, both terrestrial and aerial, and digitalization and artificial intelligence techniques for the identification and early detection of threats to cultural heritage.

The Baltanás Winery, a site of Cultural Interest in the category of ethnological ensemble, will be the pilot site representing Spain in this project.

ARGUS will last three years and involves thirteen partners from six European countries: Greece, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Cyprus and Spain.

At this meeting, the CSIC researchers presented the project and analyzed, together with the mayor, the threats to the Baltanás neighbourhood, as well as the necessary interventions to prevent any future damage.

El 27 de febrero investigadores del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) se reunieron con la alcaldesa de Baltanás, María José de la Fuente, para presentar el proyecto europeo ARGUS. 

Las Bodegas del Barrio de Baltanás son uno de los pilotos del proyecto ARGUS, financiado por la Unión Europea. El Barrio de Bodegas de Baltanás está formado por 375 bodegas excavadas y que se desarrollan en cinco niveles, siendo un ejemplo único de patrimonio cultural asociado a los sistemas productivos del vino. 

En ARGUS se aplicarán tecnologías de monitorización, tanto terrestre como aérea, y técnicas de digitalización e inteligencia artificial para la identificación y detección temprana de amenazas al patrimonio cultural. 

Las Bodegas de Baltanás, Bien de Interés Cultural dentro de la categoría de conjunto etnológico, serán el piloto que representará a España en este proyecto. 

ARGUS durará tres años e involucra trece socios de seis países de Europa: Grecia, Suiza, Italia, Alemania, Chipre y España.

En este encuentro, los investigadores del CSIC han presentado el proyecto y analizado junto con la alcaldesa las amenazas que sufre el barrio de Baltanás, así como las intervenciones necesarias para prevenir cualquier daño futuro.
